Zach LaVine’s game-winning dunk came after a lazy Magic inbounds play

With the score tied at 101 apiece on ostensibly the game’s final possession with the shot clock turned off, the Orlando Magic only had one job: safely get the ball inbounds.

That did not happen.

After Jonathon Simmons carelessly inbounded the ball with 15 seconds left in Orlando’s matchup against the Bulls on Monday, Zach LaVine swooped in, stole the ball and took it all the way for a one-handed slam. Chicago went on to win, 105-101.

Two observations:

  • Simmons has to do better than this. It’s a chance to win the game here, fam. Throw the ball to your teammate with some vigor.
  • LaVine’s moving pretty quickly after tearing his ACL last season. That’s a good sign for the Bulls, who’ll be in position to sign him to a hefty contract extension this summer.
